Thank you Hon. Chief Minister Thiru C. Joseph Vijay for enabling Level Playing field for Tamil Cinema with 6 a.m. show.*
Due to an unforeseen incident in January 2023 at a popular theatre, the 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. shows were stopped in Tamil Nadu by the State Government and since then Tamil Cinema lost its level playing field with most neighbouring States (Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra/Telangana) starting Tamil films at 6 a.m. With Overseas territory screening starting at the same time, before the show begins in Tamil Nadu at 9 a.m., the narrative on the film has been set by the audience and critics, who have seen the film in either neighbouring states or in overseas at 6 a.m.
During the recently held tripartite meeting with the Tamil Nadu Government, all the Associations (Tamil Film Producers Council, Tamil Film Active Producers Association, Tamil Nadu Theatre & Multiplex Owners Associations and Tamil Nadu Active Distributors Association) have requested that the shows must be allowed to begin at 6 a.m. in Tamil Nadu and until 2 a.m., any number of shows can be screened in that time period, especially during festival weekends so that new films get the level playing field across the world.
Hon. Minister Thiru A. Rajmohan, Minister for Information & Publicity has kindly taken up our request with the Hon. Chief Minister Thiru C. Joseph Vijay and got the clearance today and issued a Government Order for Tamil film shows to begin from 6 a.m. and can be screened till 2.30 a.m. six shows during festival weekends.
We at Tamil Film Active Producers Association wholeheartedly wish to thank both our Chief Minister and Hon. Minister for this kind gesture, that enables one additional show during festival weekends for new films and also helps to ensure Tamil cinema is screened across the world at the same time.
After distributing the long pending subsidy to 224 films for the period 2015 to 2022, which helped the 224 Producers financially and emotionally, this support of special show permission by Tamil Nadu Government is a great support to Tamil Cinema.
We wish to express our gratitude and thanks to Hon. Chief Minister Thiru C. Joseph Vijay and Hon. Minister Thiru A. Rajmohan for being a great pillar of support to Tamil Cinema.
